East Hills International Studies Academy combines a standards-based instructional program with daily instruction in French language and culture. In the primary grades, students acquire proficiency in a second language naturally through song and simple vocabulary, such as greetings and colors.

The culture and people of France are explored through creative, hands-on projects. As listening and speaking skills increase, children begin to read and write in French. By the end of fifth grade, students demonstrate mastery of the French language through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

East HIlls International Studies Academy was built in the 1970s as an open-classroom school. The building provides a modern, inviting atmosphere for students, as well as an educational setting that is conducive to intellectual work. Features of the facility include:

Flexible teaching areas

Computers and Internet access for all grades

A library and instructional materials resource center

A science center with adjoining indoor ecosystem (Grades 4 and 5) and outdoor nature trail

An art center complete with woodworking benches and kiln

A music center with soundproof practice rooms for vocal and instrumental music

Multipurpose gym/auditorium with theater stage

Through the study of French language and culture, high academic standards, and a school atmosphere that welcomes ethnic diversity, East Hills International Studies Academy strives to educate all students to their fullest potential.

Building on the concept of multiculturalism and racial integration that is a key component of International Studies magnet schools, East Hills ISA celebrates the opportunity to educate citizens of the world, and is proud of its diverse student population.
