Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Squirrel Hill, the 18th branch library of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, was dedicated on December 13, 1972. The library is located at the corner of Forbes and Murray Avenues in the heart of the business district.

On April 19, 2005 the library reopened after a year long renovation. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Squirrel Hill chose to use the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) building rating system as part of its effort to renovate and modernize the library. The building is approximately 40% larger and incorporates the style of an urban loft. The once-outside concrete patio at the Forbes Avenue entrance is now enclosed by a copper mesh screen. It is a perfect place to sit and read a book, or to look out over the busy corner of Forbes and Murray.

To the residents of the community, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Squirrel Hill represents a strong sense of their community pride and spirit of accomplishment. The library continues to function as a vital institution by rendering services to meet the diverse needs and interests of the patrons.
