I started competing Novice in 1987 at the age of 14 at random contests in Natick, MA, Watertown, CT and Bristol, CT. In 1988 at the age of 15, I competed Intermediate in the "King of Flatland" contest series held up at New Hampshire. I went down to the jams in York, PA in 1990 & 1991. I stopped riding on a regular basis in 1992. I may have rode my bike a handful of times in 1993 & 1994. Fast forward to the end of 2011, after approximately 18 years, I decided to try to get back into riding at some capacity. Over the years I didn't keep up with the riding progression, nor did I realize how much the bike set-ups changed. My last bike was a 1989 Haro Master, which had a relatively long top tube, and the weight was 30+ pounds. I did some searching and with the help of an old friend, I decided to buy a 2012 Kink Whip in November 2011. I added front & rear pegs, gyro and front brakes. This set-up felt comfortable, but seemed a little heavy at 27.5 pounds. I started riding again, about a couple hours per week and started getting several of my tricks back. At the end of December 2011, I decided to commit to switching over to a more current flatland-specific bike set-up. I finally got the new set-up assembled on 2/6/12. The new bike weighs just under 22 pounds. The Odyssey Waltz frame is considerably shorter than I'm used to, the forks are zero offset and the handlebars are zero sweep.
