Arbutus Middle School embraces the challenge of ensuring success for all. We strive to involve the entire school community in creating opportunities for all students to experience academic, personal, civic, social, and vocational growth. We enthusiastically work together to provide a visibly safe, disciplined, inviting, and nurturing, yet challenging environment where teachers can successfully teach and students can learn to think creatively and critically - all empowered by PRIDE (Positive Results Inspired by Discipline and Expectations).

Arbutus Middle School is located in the southwest area of Baltimore County, close to UMBC and Catonsville Community College. AMS, opened in 1958 and partially renovated in 1995, continues to educate students in creative and caring ways. Our School Improvement Team ensures the involvement of staff, students, parents, and the community in decision-making necessary to continue to provide a quality education. Our goals are the same goals as all schools in Baltimore County:

To improve achievement for all students
To maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
To use resources effectively and efficiently

AMS is organized into nine interdisciplinary teaching teams: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Teal, Orange, Silver, Bronze, and Gold, and the disciplinary teams of Art, World Languages, Math, Music, Physical Education, Family Studies/Technology Education, and Student Services. Students at all grade levels are able to take Physical Education, Music, and Art. Students in grades seven and eight also take Family Studies, Health, Technology Education, and either World Languages or Reading. In addition to the academic offerings, our students are encouraged to participate in a variety of extra-curricular programs.
