About Us:

The Parks and Recreation Department is a division of the City of Arlington. As a department, we strive to make Arlington a great place to live, work and play.

Arlington is home to over 90 parks and 6 recreation centers. The City of Arlington is one of a select group of cities in the United States to be designated a Playful City USA.

Recently, the Arlington Tennis Center became the USTA national facility of the year and has received numerous awards over the past few years. In 2010, ATC hosted a US Open Qualifier as well as many other national tournaments.

Tierra Verde Golf Club was named one of the top 100 places to play golf in the country by Golf Digest and is home to the "World's First Audubon Signature Sanctuary Municipal Golf Course.

Lake Arlington is the home of the first flat-water paddling trail in Texas and the first water trail in DFW.

According to the University of Kansas, the City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department has more certified Monarch Butterfly Waystations than any other city in the country.

The Forestry and Beautification Division has planted over 5,000 trees since 2007 across the city through our LEAF program. The department planted 2010 trees in the course of 100 days to celebrate the 2010 NBA All-Star at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

The department is big on the arts! Since 2009, a number of sculptures have been added to the community. 'Caelum Moor Environmental Art' was installed at Richard Greene Linear Park in 2009 after being in storage for a number of years. In 2010 'The Gift' and the 'Kearby Memorial' were installed in Downtown Arlington.
