Buzz Aldrin Elementary, located in Reston, Virginia, is one of the largest elementary schools in Fairfax County and encompasses approximately 100,000 interior square feet and 13.7 acres of outside grounds. This two story, thirty classroom building also houses a technology center. The center has a computer lab, resource area, health and nutrition center, weather station, and television broadcast facilities, as well as the Challenger Center Classroom Simulator, the first of its kind in the United States. The school also has computer stations in each classroom.

Buzz Aldrin Elementary educates a diverse population of students, including preschool handicapped, non-categorical, physically disabled, English-as-a-Second-Language, learning disabled, and general education programs. The school opened with a student enrollment of 550 students and is anticipating an opening enrollment of over 750 students in September, 2001.

Buzz Aldrin Elementary School focuses on science and technology. In addition to the core body of knowledge, Aldrin students are taught how to learn in order to function successfully in a rapidly changing technological age. Technology serves as the medium through which the entire populations learn. State-of-the-art hardware and specialized software continue to be launching pads for the instructional program.
