Mission Statement:
Carolina Ballet is incorporated and organized . . . for the purpose of promoting and maintaining a ballet company, to present performances of ballet for the benefit of the public, to develop dancers in the art of ballet, to educate and to encourage the art of ballet in South Carolina.

History:
In 1988 a realization was made, if the Columbia City Ballet, founded by Ann Brodie, was to become a professional company where would the communities many other talented dancers perform? Under the inspiration of Ann Brodie, John Whitehead, Adolfina Suarez-More, Donna Lewis, Anita Ashley and Mimi Wortham-Brown a community-based civic company, was born with a mission of giving performance opportunities to dancers of local pre-professional programs or those electing to dance in quality productions as an avocation.

Under the direction of Ann Brodie, with the help of John Whitehead, Carolina Ballet began to represent the best of the community, creating exceptional performances year after year. Dancers, with encouragement to pursue professional dance careers, use the Carolina Ballet as a stepping-stone, giving their "all" to dance with this company.
