Centreville Middle School is the second largest of the three middle schools in Queen Anne's County. It is located on Ruthsburg Road (Rt 304) next to the Queen Anne's County High School and houses grades six through eight. The students come from north of Centreville to as far south as the Kent Narrows Bridge, encompassing a broad spectrum of social and economic diversities. At the current time our enrollment for school year 2005-2006 is approximately 700. The school also has an active school improvement team composed of teachers, counselors, administrators, business partners, and parents.

Centreville Middle School is designed around instructional teams: Grade 6, Grade 7, two Grade 8 teams, and the Unified Arts Team. Our Unified Arts program is comprised of Art, Music, Spanish, Basic Keyboarding, and Wellness (Physical Education and Nutritional Science). The teams are interdisciplinary, and the teachers on each team share a common planning time. The school is listed as one of the Governor's Green Schools for its exemplary environmental science program.

As a school, we are focusing on reading and writing across the content areas of math, science, social students, and language arts. The challenge we face is preparing incoming students to exit three years later ready to perform at the expected high school level. To that end, we are consistently raising the bar of excellence for all students. Staff development is a key component to enable teachers to meet the diverse needs of our students. We make a strong effort to engage students in all aspects of the learning process. Cooperative groups, independent research, teacher directed lecture, and student presentations are a part of the weekly school environment for all students.

We also believe that a strong discipline code is essential to allow teachers to do their jobs without disruption and to provide students a comfortable and safe environment in which to concentrate on the learning process.
