Chardon Middle School

Chardon Middle School has been chosen for the U.S Department of Education's prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools Award honouring academically superior schools.
Chardon Middle School houses all of the school district’s sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Enrollment is approximately 810 students. We practice a middle school philosophy of “teaming” at each grade level. Teaming allows a large enrollment middle school to have smaller schools of students within the large school. This concept encourages better communications among parents, students, and teams. Each grade level has two teams of the core subject area (english, reading, math, social studies, and science), five teachers per team. Elective courses of art, health, band, chorus, general music, family and consumer science and physical education are offered to all students. The teams have a daily planning time to discuss and coordinate student projects and test dates, thematic units, parent and student conferences, students’ academic progress, homework, and discipline.

In addition, each team has a special education teacher to help students with special needs and team members to adjust and make appropriate accommodations to the curriculum. In the same respect we have a gifted teacher for the building to help staff meet the needs and adjust the curriculum for gifted students.
