Mission Information:

"We strive to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves"

Five years ago the Vestry adopted the following mission statement that expands upon the original above borrowed from the Baptismal service of the 1979 prayer book. We did this in anticipation of our Capital Campaign. It states that:

"We strive to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves, welcoming all who come through our doors…families, individuals, the heart-broken, the injured, seekers, young and old…inviting them to participate in worship, education and fellowship on a journey in Christ, a journey that we believe not only has power to heal and transform us but has the potential to transform the world”

Our Journey to Adulthood program is based on this sense of mission. The Vestry also saw this statement as extending our concern as Christ did, even further, to include the nation and the world. This part of our mission is articulated in our guest visits from Kenyan clergy, in our strong interest in outreach such as providing goods and services to local families resettling from the Balkans and from Sierra Leone, in Relay for Life and in our support of such organizations as Episcopal Relief and Development. Christian Social Outreach is very important to Christ Church. We try to share at least 5 % of our total yearly budget and we have approached 10% some years. The Committee of this title meets monthly to advise the Vestry as to the allocation of these funds. In addition to direct grant giving we also have participated in Habitat for Humanity, Crop Walk, the 9/11 Children’s Fund, Heifer Project, UNICEF, the Bishop’s Fund for Children, direct local support via the Rector`s Discretionary Fund, Day Kimball Chaplaincy, the Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group and Doctors without Borders. We also do “hands on” outreach with the local Community Kitchen and with donations to the Access Agency in Danielson. Another form of outreach included allowing local non-profit groups to use our parish hall on an on-going basis free of charge on a donation only basis.
