The Cottonwood Police Department is a small but progressive agency with a strong commitment to the Community Oriented Policing philosophy. We reach out to our community and encourage practical partnerships between our department and the community we serve. The Department serves as a regional communications center and 911 terminal for the upper Verde Valley. The Department obtained a Traffic Safety and Alcohol Enforcement grant which provided a motorcycle and officer for traffic enforcement purposes. The Department also has a Police Service Dog Team which is trained in general patrol operations as well as drug detection. The team is available to all area law enforcement agencies as part of the enabling grant received in 1990.

Cottonwood Police Department employs 44 people; 30 sworn officers and 14 civilian employees. The organization is comprised of a Police Chief, two Lieutenants, five Patrol Sergeants, One Detective Sergeant, two Detectives, 2 School Resource Officers, one K-9 Officer, one Motor Officer, 14 Officers assigned to patrol, an Ordinance Enforcement Officer, nine Dispatchers, a Systems Coordinator, an Administrative Assistant for the Chief, two Records Clerks and an Evidence Technician.
