Houston - Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District

10300 Jones Road

The earliest inhabitants of the area now occupied by Cypress-Fairbanks ISD probably never dreamed that the picturesque landscape marked by winding creeks and fertile fields would one day give way to a maze of concrete highways meandering through master-planned subdivisions. During the late 1800s, rice and dairy farming communities with one-room schoolhouses began to emerge. Two such schools of significance were located in Cypress and an area called "Gun Island" by the wagon trains because of the gumbo mud which was common during the spring season and an obstacle to travel. In 1896, C. W. Hohl founded the school in "Gum Island," later renamed Fairbanks, which includes an area where district schools Bane, Dean, and Holbrook are now located. The first class of 12 students was taught by Miss Best. The people of Cypress built Big Cypress Schoolhouse, No. 2. Dist. 6, also referred to as "the Cypress School," in 1884.

Not the best school district. Big problem with bullying at Hamilton middle and guns at school at CY ridge.

Horrible! They only care about TAKS test scores and not what your child actually learns or the experience of school. NO recess except for 15 min after lunch with 175+ other kids and no playground equipment. Gym class is pathetic. 75+ kids in 1 little room 2x a week is their gym period. An actual assignment for gym was for the kids to bring in pictures of themselves being active! Kids are in trouble all the time for not paying attention - well no wonder! There is no physical outlet for them. Sorry but you cannot expect a 5 to 10 yr old to sit still for 7 hrs a day! The class rooms are open concept so you can hear everything in the attached 3 rooms. The children sit at tables with 3 to 4 other children. We will be moving or going to private school. If I could give zero stars - I would!

This district is the worst ever!!! Kids bullying my daughter, I as a parent can't see my child in class... Its just horrible... I'm not a satisfied parent at all... Its so bad I had to withdrawl my daughter from that district and place her in one that is fove times better.
