The goal of Dorseyville Middle School is to provide a program of academic excellence for every child. They are at the heart of every decision, every program and every day.

Dorseyville Middle School is the only middle school in the Fox Chapel Area School District, located northeast of Pittsburgh, PA. Enrollment stands at approximately 1,100 students supported by 115 teachers and staff. Students have access to a wide range of courses including four languages and six different music courses. Gifted support, learning support, behavioral support, and guidance services are available for students who need them.

Dorseyville Middle School is a true middle school, meaning that the program is designed specifically to meet the unique needs of the middle-level learner. The main components of the middle school philosophy are Homebase, Interdisciplinary Team Organization, parent communication, Exploratory Time, and a rigorous curriculum based upon the Pennsylvania Academic Standards.

Students in grades six, seven or eight are assigned to a team consisting of a math teacher, language arts teacher, social studies teacher, science teacher, special education teacher, and sometimes a reading teacher. Each team is divided into seven homebase rooms of about 15 students. The team and homebase configuration creates, in essence, a smaller school within a larger school providing students the opportunity to experience a sense of belonging with an individual group of students and teachers.
