The Downtown West Orange Alliance operates following the patented four-point approach created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation through the National Main Street Center. This comprehensive approach to downtown revitalization has proven to be the most effective way organizations like the DWOA can succeed. The approach works because it covers four important aspects of downtowns that need attention and work in order to successfully revitalize. Those four areas of attention comprise the committees that work on the downtown projects. They are: Organization, Design, Promotions, and Economic Restructuring.
