About Us:
Elberfeld Elementary School is located in the northwestern corner of Warrick County in Southern Indiana. The 52,000 square foot building, erected in 1994, is equipped with a full-size gymnasium with a beautiful hardwood floor, a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area for students, a large library with a vaulted ceiling and digital check-out/cataloging system, a computer lab with thirty-five computer stations, a mobile computer lab with 16 laptops, a music lab with thirty-four piano keyboards, a beautifully decorated outdoor reading garden, and a large playground with swings, climbing toys, a tennis court, basketball courts, and an asphalt track.
Throughout the school year, students stay busy with competitive and intramural sports. Fifth and sixth graders compete in volleyball and basketball. Our fifth grade girls volleyball team won the county championship in the 2009-2010 school year. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders compete in track. Upper grade girls may join the Stingers Dance Team and sixth grade girls may try out for cheerleading. Go, Hornets!
There are many activities for the Elberfeld students. They serve as student council representatives, class officers, Buzz-In Bookstore employees, peer tutors, safety patrol, flag patrol, and fire marshals. Students can also participate in the spelling bee, Spell Bowl, Word Wars, DARE, band, and Accelerated Reader.
The Elberfeld Parents-Teachers-Students Association (EPTS) is very active at the school and around the community. They coordinate the "Brain Food for ISTEP" each year, aide in holiday classroom parties, beautify the school's flowerbeds, provide a feast at the end of Literacy Month, plan an end of the year field day for the entire school, and much more.
A few of the tools used to increase student achievement are DIBELS, MClass Math, Acuity, and Response to Intervention (RTI). In this small school setting, teachers build close relationships with the students. Students are treated as individuals and with the respect they deserve.
Elberfeld Elementary has many celebrations throughout the year. Students are awarded for academic accomplishments, perfect attendance, Accelerated Reader, Honor Roll, Principal's Honor Roll, Student of the Month, Bug Award (Brought Up a Grade), and also for their many smaller daily successes.
