About Us:

The Fayette County School Corporation, which was created in 1965, serves both the City of Connersville and surrounding rural communities. Approximately 4,400 students from PreK to grade 12 attend the eight elementary buildings, one middle school, one high school, and the alternative school site. In addition, the Whitewater Valley Technical Center serves over 500 students in Fayette and four surrounding counties. The Fayette County School Corporation is also the location of the East Central Educational Service Center and Centerville-Abington, Fayette, Rush Special Services for Exceptional Learners, which provides a comprehensive special education program for three area school districts.

The Fayette County School Corporation is consistently in the forefront of education in the state of Indiana with programs that are designed to anticipate the future needs of students. The school corporation provides many early childhood services from a day care center for infants and young children to the Head Start program with seven preschool classrooms to serve at-risk and handicapped children. Alternative programs are available for students in need of a more structured environment, a more flexible schedule, or mentors.

All schools offer a well-coordinated instructional program with the latest in curriculum materials. Teachers are currently involved in implementing improved writing development strategies, lessons designed around the multiple intelligences, Reading Recovery, and technology integrated into the curriculum. Special teachers are employed to teach music, art, and physical education. Well-stocked media centers, computer labs, and in-classroom computers offer a variety of reference and support materials. Remedial tutors and counselors supplement the regular program.

The middle school is organized around the middle school concept with students grouped in teams with a core group of teachers. Connersville Middle School was designated an Indiana Blue Ribbon School in 1998. The high school is organized around ninety-minute block classes that allow more in-depth study of the subject matter. The secondary program from grade 7 through grade 12 offers a full range of classes for all ability levels and areas of interest. Advanced courses in mathematics, English, and science as well as advanced placement and college credit classes are available. Foreign language classes are offered in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. The middle and high school have outstanding choral programs and a complete range of academic competitions. A full marching band and jazz band, a speech and drama program, and a TV/media production department that is well-known throughout the state, are available at the high school. Of course, a very complete sports program and excellent athletic facilities are also provided.

Many enrichment opportunities are provided for the students at all levels: artists-in-residence, science fair, academic competitions, the annual Young Authors' Conference, field trips, school/business partnerships, and community education are just a few examples of the activities that enrich the curriculum and motivate the students to learn.

The educational program in the Fayette County School Corporation is comprehensive and challenging. A very professional administrative and instructional staff is focused on providing the programs that will prepare each student to be successful.
