First Baptist Church of Ridgefield Park

Hobart Street, Euclid Avenue
201-641-9447

Our history includes the building of a chapel on Winant Ave. in 1894, which is now located on the corners of Henry and Orchard Streets; the forming of the first Boy Scout Troop in America, Troop #1, by Rev. E.C. Murphy in 1910; the purchasing of the present property on Euclid and Hobart in 1911, and the building of the present sanctuary in 1912; the donation of a pipe organ by the Central Baptist Church of New York City in 1912; the donation of the marvelous stained glass windows in 1918 by Mrs. Esther E. Voorhees; the pastorate of Rev. Alexander Frazer from 1919-28, 1938-46, which saw marked attendance increase in the church; the renovation of the church basement for Sunday School classes in 1958-60; the construction of the present parsonage in 1973; and the construction of a worship center in the Fellowship Hall in 1980.
From Rev. Shrive’s pioneering, to Rev. Murphy’s Boy Scouts, to Rev. Frazer’s two-term pastorate, to Rev. Robert Roberts who drove in from Canada in a little Volkswagen and is now head of World Mission Support for ABCUSA, God has always provided excellent pastoral leadership for our congregation.
