In fact, 70% of the district’s campuses received an Exemplary or Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2002, with many more campuses only a fraction away from a higher rating. Among its many honors, FBISD had 73 National Merit Semifinalists in 2003. First Colony Middle School and Elkins High School are among a select group of secondary schools selected as Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education. Austin High School and Clements High School have both been recognized by Texas Monthly Magazine in its list of the top 10 high schools in the state of Texas. The district has been named one of the Top 100 School Districts in the Nation for a Fine Arts E ducation, according to a nation-wide survey of public and private school programs. Fort Bend ISD is also the largest employer in Fort Bend County, with more than 7,800 district employees.
