Attendance

Attendance Policy

At Fossil Ridge High School, we believe that good attendance is one of the most important steps to academic success. Every student knows the costs of being absent -- makeup work, missed information, and the need to attend Saturday Schools if you miss too many days. All students must follow the state guidelines regarding absences from school.

Attendance Regulations

According to state regulations, a student must attend class for at least 90% of the time in which a course is offered to receive credit for the course. If a student accumulates more than 5 absences in any class they may be at risk for being denied credit for the course. Also, the Compulsory Attendance law states that students who are absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period, or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period may be referred to the district attendance officer.

What to do if you are absent

Parent/Guardian should call the attendance office on the day of the absence at one of the following numbers: (817) 744-1715, (817) 744-1716, (817) 744-1717. Upon returning to school, the student must report to the attendance office before first period with appropriate documentation regarding the absence.

According to state law and local policy, each student can accumulate no more than 5 unexcused absences in each course, each nine-week period, and receive credit for that course (often referred to as the 90% rule). According to KISD Board Policy FEC Legal, documentation of an 'excused' absence must be received in the attendance office within five days of the date of absence. If documentation is not received within five days of the absence, the absence will be recorded as unexcused. Only document doctor visits, required court appearances, death of an immediate family member, school related activities, and/or nationally recognized religious holidays my considered "excused" absences. Students are responsible fro insuring their absences are cleared.

Documentation regarding absences should be turned into the attendance office or faxed to (817) 744-1813. All documentation regarding absences may be verified. Forged documentation could result in criminal charges being filed against the individual.
