Grace United Methodist Church Of Parksley

18484 Wilson Avenue
757-665-4783

The first Methodist Protestant Church in Parksley was built in 1892 where Grace United Methodist Church stands today. On October 30, 1909, the little church burned.

On June 11, 1911, the new Grace Methodist Church of Parksley was opened. Mr. Andrew Carnegie had his secretary contact the church on March 11, 1911, with a proposal the church couldn't not resist. If the church would raise half of $1,250 for a pipe organ, he would pay the other half.

The church did and was the first church on the Eastern Shore to enjoy a pipe organ.

In 1974, the outer brick walls had deteriorated so badly it was found to be irreparable. And after much worry and stress, the decision was to tear it down and start anew.

The first service in the new church was held December 12, 1976.
