Mission:
We are dedicated to community service. Our mission as volunteers is to serve our community by providing quality and effective emergency response services as well as provide our citizens with fire prevention and awareness education that will ultimately minimize the loss of life and property resulting from fires and other hazardous conditions.

By effectiveness, we mean to establish specific goals and our performance will be measured against those goals, in order to provide the best service available to the citizens of our community.

By quality, we suggest that our services and fire prevention programs have a valuable impact and outcome on our citizens.

Our History:

The Hawthorne Volunteer Fire Department as we know was established by ordinance on October 16,1916. Prior to 1916, there were several companies that protected the Borough. Lafayette Fire Company #1 was the first to organize way back on November 13,1902, and was followed by Hawthorne Fire Company #1 on August 23,1910. 5 years later, on November 15,1915, Hawthorne Fire Company # 2 organized.

Then in 1916, in order to comply with the State Underwriters/Rating Experts, and to secure a reduction in insurance rates for the residents of Hawthorne, it became necessary for all Fire Companies to come under the control of the Borough.

All Fire Companies readily agreed, thus Lafayette Fire Company #1 became Hawthorne Fire Company #1. Hawthorne Fire Company #1 as it was originally known became Hawthorne Fire Company #2 and Hawthorne Fire Company #2 changed its name to Hawthorne Fire Company #3. It stayed like that until June 29,1920 when Hawthorne Fire Company #4 organized. On October 10,1985, 65 years later, Hawthorne Fire Company #5 was organized.
