Hazelwood West High School

Hazelwood West High School
1 Wildcat Lane
314-953-5800

Hazelwood West proudly opened in 1969 as a three-year junior high school (called Howdershell Jr. High) and was later expanded to include the three additional years of high school. The building opened as a six-year facility in 1975. In 2005, two new wings were built to meet the needs of a booming population.

In 2007, with the completion of the district’s four new middle schools, Hazelwood West’s facility will be designated solely as a High School. One thing has remained unchanged since opening our doors in 1969, West has always maintained a caring and professional teaching staff who have proudly and ably served our community’s children.

At West our points of pride include district leading state statistics like student teacher ratio, all important MAP scores, graduation rates, and percentage of teachers with advanced degrees. At West we haven’t forgotten the 3 R’s, but we do enhance the basic core curriculum with a wide spectrum of academic offerings. Today’s classrooms embrace cutting edge technology, news broadcast, computer engineering, and Web site design to name but a few of our award winning courses.

This same dedication to bringing out the best of all our students, is also applied to our extra curricular options. Whether your interest lies in music, math competition, theater, creative writing, football, wrestling, or engineering, West has a success driven program for you. At West, every teacher works so that each student develops the highest democratic ideals, an appreciation of our heritage, an understanding of rights and responsibilities, self-discipline, and respect for self and others. We at West proudly believe in what we do and how we do it. Our teachers, our staff, our facility, our drive…this is what makes west best.
