Herreid Music was started in the Redding location in 1962. Byron "By" Herreid was a professional musician who decided traveling on the road with family was too much and settled in the Redding area. After selling Rich Sound & Music in Chico in 1991, Rich Pires purchased Herreid Music in Redding on January 1st 1992. A fire destroyed the Store in August of 1992, and without insurance, and with lots of hard work, Herreid Music survived and became stronger than ever.

In August of 1997 the Chico Herreid Music was opened on Main Street in Chico. This store was moved to the current Oroville Avenue in 2005. Herreid Music continues to work on the goal of being the best music store in the north valley.
