Historical Society Of Federal Way

About Us:

The Historical Society was formed in anticipations of the Washington state centennial. At that time, the founders foresaw a time of heightened awareness of history of the state and our locality. We involved ourselves in many activities surrounding that auspicious milestone dedication of the flagpole and marker at Century Plaza (now Ross Plaza), dedication of other markers at Five Mile Lake and the Palisades Park and an extensive photo display at SeaTac Mall.

In the years since then the Historical Society has developed an extensive archive of historical information, accumulated thousands of images of life in Federal Way over the past 100 years and made dozens of public presentations on a wide variety of historical subjects. In the future, we will make more presentations, emplace two historical markers and further improve our archives and collections. The Barker and Denny Cabins will be restored before too many more months go by and the Historical Society will seek additional opportunities to advance the community's appreciation of our heritage.

The Society invites your participation. There are many opportunities for individuals to volunteer. We have need for people with skills in writing, graphic arts, development and fundraising, photography and membership development as well as clipping and filing historical information. Our headquarters at the "Fisher House" can use many kinds of skilled and unskilled work maintaining and improving the unique array of rhododendrons and other horticultural delights.
