Hollis Seniors

The Hollis Seniors Organization is open to all Hollis residents who have attained the age of 55 years.

The Hollis Seniors provides an opportunity to catch up with long-time friends, to meet new people, and to get to know one another at such functions as the weekly luncheons which are held at the Lawrence Barn each Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  From September through June, these luncheons are provided by Meals on Wheels in a community dining setting at the Barn with featured speakers or community service activities.  During the Summer, we still meet weekly; however, we brown-bag our own lunches; order pizza, subs, or Chinese; or make a trip to one of the many local restaurants.  We also put on an annual Christmas luncheon in December as well as an annual picnic in June at some of the many function facilities located in our area.

The weekly gatherings are a terrific forum through which members are made aware of ongoing and new community programs and seniors activities, such as the new transportation program that has been put in place for those needing rides to medical appointments.  Members engage in community volunteer service and improve awareness of the senior citizens in the town of Hollis.  The Hollis Seniors sponsors community education in seniors' matters such as offering the AARP Safe Driving Course, free monthly blood pressure screenings, and flu shot clinics.  Our featured speakers deliver presentations dealing with safety, insurance, taxes, and medical issues applicable to seniors.

The Hollis Seniors Organization's dues-paying membership represents only approximately 10% of eligible residents.  We are in need of new members in the 55 to 65 year age range.  Although most residents in that age group do not consider themselves "seniors", they are sorely needed to help vitalize the activities of the Hollis Seniors and to help those of a more advanced age.  This younger age group provides a unique and alternative insight into local, county, state, and national affairs and brings a youthful atmosphere needed to invigorate the entire group.

Please come by and say "hello."  Our weekly luncheons on Thursdays are your best opportunity to see what we are all about.  To order a Meals on Wheels lunch, please call the president at the number listed below, the Thursday before you plan on attending a meeting; otherwise, please plan on bringing a brown-bag lunch with you.  Meals on Wheels needs a one-week advance notice in order to supply a meal.
