History:

The spark, which lit the fire that spread to our present congregation, began burning in the summer of 1921. Brother L.G. Kennamer, a visiting professor from Nashville to Sam Houston Normal Institute, gathered up about fifteen members and started our first congregation. This group met in the County Courthouse for approximately five years.

In 1926 a small frame building was erected at our present location of 15th Street and Avenue L (now Sam Houston). This building, with an auditorium to hold 250 and two small classrooms, contained ample room for the congregation of sixty or seventy Christians.

In 1938 the building was expanded to accommodate the growing congregation. The expansion allowed for even more members, new programs, and greater service to God. Our present auditorium was built in 1956 with the capacity to seat approximately five hundred people. Several years ago some of our forward thinking leaders and concerned members started investigating expansion opportunities at our present location, as well as, the possibility of constructing a new building on our acreage on Highway 30. Several proposals were reviewed and our plan for the NEW building was presented.

As our membership continues to grow and our youth group expands, we are blessed with numbers that do not fit comfortably in the present building. Our eighty years of obedience to God continues to provide the Huntsville Church of Christ with the opportunity to experience abundant growth in spiritual maturity, as well as, membership. To allow these same opportunities and blessings for the next generation, it is vital to actively move forward, preparing the way for the future.
