Ithaca Concert Band

Elizabeth Peterson and Mark Fonder, Conductors

Ithaca and the surrounding areas have a rich history of outstanding community bands.  The most noted is the famous Conway Band which performed both locally and nationally during the early 1900's and gained a national following.

The Ithaca Concert Band, founded in 1976 by Robert Sweet, Joan Beeler, the first conductor, and a small dedicated board of directors, continues the community band tradition.  The Band performs about a dozen free concerts per year in local auditoriums, on the Commons, and in area parks.  The Band is comprised of  musicians from all walks of life.  From student to professor, professional to retiree, the band's musicians play for the love of the music.  Over 500 musicians have played with the band since its formation.  New members are always welcome.  To inquire about joining the band, please contact the appropriate section leader or the band president.  Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 7:30pm in the First Congregational Church, 309 Highland Rd. in Cayuga Heights.

Our co-conductors, are Elizabeth Peterson and Mark Fonder.   Kevin Peters was our interim conductor during the winter and spring of 2011.   Henry Neubert conducted the band for 22 years from 1978 to 1999.   Keith Kaiser co-conducted the band from 2000 to 2010.
