We are Christ-centered Friends who equip and encourage all people to respond to God's love and transforming Spirit.

Our Peace supper on May 1st was a great success. We learned a lot about the issues involved concerning immigration. The documentary called FROZEN DREAMS produced by Emiliana Aguilar Reynoso, a Mayan Quiche from Guatemala, was shown. It shows the perspective of several mothers who were among the 160 people involved in the immigration raid at the Del Monte food production plant in Portland, Oregon in 2007. This documentary helps put a human face to this complex issue. We also featured a panel of guests including an immigration lawyer, a farmer, and a clergy person.

Nearly 350,000 illegal immigrants were arrested and deported in the past year. More than 10,000 of those were from Washington, Oregon and Alaska, an increase of more than 35 percent from the previous year. (The Oregonian, Sunday, April 12, 2009) Sadly, in many of these cases, families have been torn apart. Many illegal immigrants have left crushing poverty to come to the states in order to provide food and shelter for their families. Clearly, our current immigration system is broken and in need of reform.
