Lakewood Middle School

5222 National Road
740-928-8330

Lakewood Middle School houses grades 6,7, and 8 in the Lakewood Local Local School District. Before the construction of a new High School these grades were organized as a junior high in the facility on Lancer Road which now is the Intermediate School.

The Middle School is organized by grades and teams. Each grade level has two academic teams consisting of a science, social studies, language arts, math, and in some cases an inclusion specialist. Basically each team is assigned half of the students in their grade and work with them using a team concept.

Unified arts teachers and other specialists work with all grades throughout the day. Each grade level utilizes a shared, flexible common block of time for academic classes. This schedule could be described as three schools within one as bells are only used in the morning through homeroom and at dismissal time in the afternoon. Class changes are staggered whenever possible to prevent crowding in the halls when classes are changing.

Lakewood Middle School has had measured success using quality practices and data's to make decisions in regards to improving student achievement. We Have met the State's "Adequate Yearly Progress" benchmark for our school each year that it has been measured. Our State performance Index Scores and 6th grade Proficiency scores also reflect improvement.
