It is not know when the Methodists of Lebanon were organized as a "Society". It is known that for several years, certainly as far back as 1828, regular meetings were held in Slash Church. Before this country became independent of England, Slash Church was a Church of England property.

For years after independence was gained, Slash Church was free for the use of all denominations. In 1842, the Methodists decided that they would like to have a house of their own and purchased from Mr. Samual LaMay and his wife Sally the land on which Lebanon now stands. The purchase price of $15.00 was donated to Lebanon Church by Mr. LaMay.

According to information written by Mr. Joseph S. Wingfield and Rev. S. H. Johnson, Lebanon's first church was dedicated in 1842, although it was unfurnished. In 1849, the first church was completed. It was burned down in 1851. When the original building was destroyed by fire, the members of Lebanon worshipped under a brush arbor which was provided for shelter.

The present building was standing and in use in 1860, though it was not lathed, plastered, or painted. The present building was erected by Mr. George Wesley King, who also made the pews which are in use today. In 1881 or 1882, the vestibule and recess pulpit were added and the inside was finished.
