Leighton Evatt American Legion Post 365

1022 Vandalia Street
618-345-2508

About Us:

Leighton Evatt American Legion Post 365 was formed on Christmas Eve of 1919. The Post was named after Humphrey Leighton Evatt, the first man to die in WWI from Collinsville, Il.. The new post was named Leighton Evatt Post 365 in honor of Leighton Evatt, who was the first Collinsville man to die in France. Leighton was the eldest son of Reverend Evatt who was the Pastor of the Episcopal Church here. The number 365 indicates that the local post was the 365th Post granted a charter in Illinois, up to December 24, 1919, which also shows how fast the American Legion was growing in Illinois.
