About Us:

We exist to Glorify God by intentionally and creatively making disciples of Jesus Christ for the joy of all peoples. 

Long Green Baptist is part of the Southern Baptist Convention. Our core beliefs are spelled out in their publication called Baptist Faith and Message. 

As members, we have one life-transforming experience in common. We came to believe that God exists and that He brought us into existence. Since he is God, He has a claim on our lives. We admitted that we had rebelled against His direction and insisted on going our own way. That wasn’t working too well for us as we found ourselves separated from God and with other broken relationships all around us. We came to a change of mindset that led us to renounce our self-centered living. We came to believe that Jesus Christ gave himself in brokenness so that our brokenness might be brought back into wholeness. We are convinced that He gave himself so that we might be reconciled to God and to others. As Tim Keller say, “We found that we were much worse off than we had feared, but at the same time more loved and accepted than we had dreamed.” God continues to do a work of re-creation in our lives, taking the broken pieces of our past and creating new persons.

We find our new identity in Him rather than in our accomplishments or failures.  We don’t believe He went to that great sacrifice just to make us happier or better individuals. He redeemed us to be His very own people. He has blessed us so that we might bless others. He wants the world to see what He can do as He reflects His greatness through our smallness. He wants to show the world His reconciling power as He brings together some of us who would not have ordinarily chosen one another as friends but who now consider one another brothers and sisters in Christ. Together, we are learning what it means to please Him rather than trying to convince Him to please us.
