The primary purpose of Longfellow Elementary School is to educate the youth of our community in the pursuit of excellence by providing:

A curriculum that teaches the basic tools of learning, reading, observing, listening, writing, speaking, and computing for each child;

An environment that is conducive to sound moral, physical, social, spiritual, academic, and cultural growth;

A guidance approach that fosters: The development of the ability to make reliable judgments based upon critical and constructive thinking skills;

The development of social and educational values essential to good citizenship in a democratic society.

We include in this statement of purpose a belief that all children have a natural desire to learn and that efficiency of learning is related to a strength of motivation and measure intelligence. Additionally, we believe that all children have basic needs among which include physical, emotional, social, mental, and moral needs. Growth patterns differ among children and the amount and rate of growth will differ within groups of children. In keeping with these principles, we commit ourselves to strive for continuity in providing for the optimal learning of our young people
