Machias Valley Baptist Church

8 Broadway
207-255-4476

In 1956, a young man by the name of Pastor George Henderson left the small village of Allagash, Maine, and came to the town of Machias with great determination to fulfill the desire which God had placed on his heart since he was a teen. This purpose led to the discovery of the Universalist Church, which became Machias Valley Baptist Church in September 1962.

After many renovations and additions, in 1981, Machias Valley Christian School was opened, which used the church facilities to prepare children for their futures with God’s guidance. The Hemmingway Annex building was purchased for a youth center and office space as the ministry of Machias Valley Baptist Church continued to grow and reach out to people in the Machias Bay area.

Pastor George Henderson and his wife, Carolyn Sprague Henderson, faithfully served the Lord in the ministry of Machias Valley Baptist Church. Pastor Henderson went home to be with his Lord on August 23, 2008, after serving as MVBC's only pastor for 50 years.
