Memorial Middle School

615 Rollstone Street

Memorial Middle School was originally dedicated as Memorial Junior High School on October 1, 1967. Its specifications of 125,000 square feet, 30 classrooms and 8 ‘work rooms’ were designed to house 750 students in grades 7 through 9. Eventually, freshmen were included in the high school grade structure, and Memorial became a middle school, comprised of grades 6-8. In the year 2000, a new high school was erected, and Memorial changed once again, becoming an Intermediate school of grades 5-6, with the bulk of the city’s 7th and 8th graders heading to the ‘old’ high school, now called Academy Middle School. For the current school year 2005-06, Memorial added grades 7 and 8, and now services nearly 700 students in grades 5 through 8. We are an extremely diverse learning community, and our remarkable blend of culture, language, heritage and academic ability is a strength.

Memorial’s goal is continuous improvement and meeting that will lead to an environment where high academic achievement is the norm. Students develop productive habits of mind, a love of learning, and social responsibility
