The Internal Affairs Unit of the Mount Vernon Police Department is responsible for investigating and/or supervising complaints of employee misconduct and violations of department rules and regulations. It is the duty of all MVPD employees to report any perceived violation of Department regulations, as well as violations of city, state or federal laws committed by another employee.  Persons who would like to file a complaint against a Police Department employee may contact the Internal Affairs Unit.  The Internal Affairs Unit and the Mount Vernon Police Department provide citizens with avenues of resolution to ensure that complaints of misconduct and inappropriate behavior are investigated thoroughly and without bias.

Additionally, many times Police Department Employees perform their duties in an outstanding manner.  Occasionally such conduct goes unmentioned or unreported.  If you observe an outstanding act or service as conducted by an employee and feel the officer’s action should be noted, please advise the employee or their supervisor. You may to send a letter to the Police Commissioner's office as well.
