Mt. Hope Elementary was the original school built in the early 1900's as a one-room schoolhouse.  The present school, Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary, is named for two schools that were consolidated in the 1970's to meet the needs of a growing community and achieve integration.  The school community is unique and geographically isolated from the rest of the county.  In a region where business and industry are growing at a rapid pace, much of the Nanjemoy community remains suspended in time and unaffected by the conveniences of the modern world.  Despite these limitations, our school maintains an attendance percentage of 96%. Our vision here at Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School is lifelong learning for the school community, three year olds through adult; expanded early childhood programs; collaborative business partnerships; and an emphasis on advanced technology.  This vision is one where everyone is valued, everyone contributes, and everyone is successful.
