To know Mt. Hope Community Church is to know a rich history which has always been true to the mission of Jesus Christ and to the mandate found within its own name to serve the people of its community.

Mt. Hope began as a Mission Church just after World War II under the sponsorship of the Board of American Missions of the former United Presbyterian Church. It was consecrated as such on September 22, 1946 in the Penn Hills Township Municipal Building. Worship, Sunday School classes, and church meetings were actually held in the Municipal Building until 1949 when the building on its present site was first occupied. The doors that lead to the present day entrance to Mt. Hope's Multi-Purpose Room were the entrance to the original Sanctuary. These doors were the first that Mt. Hope held open to the Penn Hills community and remain a symbol of welcome and hospitality today.

Since then, Mt. Hope has expanded, adding on educational facilities in 1952 and the present Sanctuary which was dedicated on May 19, 1963. Mt. Hope's first pastor was Rev. Ellsworth E. Caylor, and was followed by A. Vance Meanor, John C. Little, Gary Albertson, Jay Collins, Tom Ribar, and James Yearsley.

Today Mt. Hope Church is as vibrant as ever, with an numerous youth and adult programs, chancel and children's choirs, service opportunities, and partnerships both local and across the globe that include Valley View Church and the Living Word Church in the Pittsburgh area and Domasi Church in Malawi, Africa.

Looking ahead to the future, Mt. Hope's "tomorrow" is found in its spirit of servanthood, ingenuity, and versatility. Mt. Hope sees itself as a potent force in the quest for a world of peace and justice. With Christ at its center, it is sure to be just that.

Our mission is to share the Gospel in word in and deed and to reflect Christ's love in our church family, the community, and the world by:

Welcoming and nurturing all people as children of God

Celebrating God's gifts to us

Fostering responsible stewardship of all God's creation

Reaching out in love, justice, mercy, and service to others

Pursuing God's will and guidance through daily prayer and study of the Word if God to lead us to repentance and committed discipleship.
