History:

Commissioned at an original cost of $35,000, the Muckenthaler home was built by Walter and Adella Muckenthaler in 1924 atop a hill in Fullerton. The 18-room, 8.5-acres mansion was donated to the city in 1965 by Harold Muckenthaler, who wished to see his childhood home used as a cultural center for the public. In 1999, the Muckenthaler received designation by the National Register of Historic Places. In its 49th year, The Muck produces more than 75 performances, gallery exhibits, festivals and special events; and more than 2,000 hours of arts education classes at The Muck and in eight outreach sites serving more than 30,000 people every year.

We also host more than 75 weddings and corporate events. Our awards and accolades include the 2009 Fullerton Chamber of Commerce Quality of Life award for best non-profit organization in the city, the 2010 Arts Program of the Year award from Arts Orange County, and past reader’s poll awards from OC Parenting for Best Historic Site. We are also an OC Register’s finalist for Best Museum, the 2012 winner for Orange Coast Magazine’s Most Eclectic Venue, the 2013 winner for Orange Coast Magazine’s Best Arts Education, and the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award for 2013 from the Orange County Department of Education.

The Muck is a beautiful facility in Orange County. A few fun features on the property include an art gallery that displays art by local artists, an amphitheater, a stone and terracotta gazebo, and a huge open grass area. My family has attended a few of their events, and they did an amazing job at piquing the interest of all ages. After all, it's not everyday that you get to decorate a sugar skull, visit Santa Claus, or taste chili cooked by the locals.

Experienced a wedding here and thought it was a great venue to host a wedding. Wonderful grounds to walk around in, and their preferred caterer is actually really good unlike a lot of wedding caterers. Was a great time!

Just 3 stars because I've never been inside. I usually go for the shade the surrounding park has to offer on hot days.

The Muckenthaler Cultural Center is a great place to take art class for both kids and adults. They have periodic concerts and other events such as car shows. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with large lawns, flowers and shrubbery. The architecture is interesting and beautiful as well.
