Naeskahoni Town

Naeskahoni Town is an actual-size living village of the French and Indian War Era,nestled on Chestnut Ridge near Black Lick, PA, and is located five miles from Blairsville. The purpose of this village is to educate children and adults about Eastern Woodland.

Naeskahoni Town is a family operated historic site. Our ancestors lived in this area for 300 years. Our intent in constructing this village is to pass on the knowledge that was orally passed on to our family through the generations.

We brought together five cultures in our ten different structures. Each structure provides an opportunity for hands-on activities, suited for preschoolers and up. The activities allow the children to participate in daily chores of the Eastern Woodland people.

The village demonstrates the Eastern Woodland people's way of life before European settlement and after European contact. The village shows how the cultures interacted and learned from each other.

The Eastern Woodland people, like all native peoples, lived off the land; therefore, Naeskahoni Town is constructed of totally natural materials indigenous to the area.

Naeskahoni Town consists of the following: a hunting/fishing lean-to, a warrior's longhouse, a trader's lean-to, a border people's house, a bowmaker's longhouse, a tanner's wigwam, a toolmaker's thatched wigwam, an herb lady's wigwam, a cook house/pottery longhouse, and a gardener/jeweler's wigwam.
