New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES)

Located at UMDNJ, 140 Bergen Street, Suite G 1600
800-222-1222

The New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) is also known as the NJ Poison Control Center.  It is the state's only poison control center.  Our free, 24/7 emergency and information hotline (1-800-222-1222) is answered by medical professionals (doctors, nurses, and pharmacists).  These specialists offer confidential advice regarding poison emergencies and provide information on poison prevention, drugs, food poisoning, animal bites and more to all NJ residents.  We can help callers who speak many different languages.  No question is too small and most cases can be resolved over the phone, usually avoiding an expensive, unnecessary trip to an emergency room.

NJPIES' educators conduct statewide outreach to NJ communities about our services, as well as, educate them regarding medication (prescription, over-the-counter, herbal) safety, food safety, household cleaning products, carbon monoxide poisoning, outdoor safety, etc.  We offer programs for children, parents/adults, and seniors.  If interested in scheduling a program for your organization, please contact Nicole Taite, Health Educator at 973-972-9280 x106 or put in a request through our website www.njpies.org (preferred) providing three (3) alternate dates and you will be contacted as soon as possible to schedule.

New Jersey residents seeking immediate information about treating poison emergencies, and those with any drug information questions, should call the toll-free hotline, 800-222-1222, anytime. The hearing impaired may call 973-926-8008. For more information, visit us at www.njpies.org or call 973-972-9280.
