The mission of NCSHG is to preserve Newaygo County's hitorical and genealogical materials for future generations through conservation, education, research and restoration.

The Society was formed in 1966 to assist in the preservation of the history and genealogical records of Newaygo County. It is a non-profit organization. The NCSHG currently maintains several collections of genealogical materials at various libraries in the county as well as the Newaygo County Historical Museum in Newaygo, Michigan and St. Mary's Church in Croton, Michigan. St. Mary's Church was constructed in 1853, the first church of any denomination to be built in Newaygo County.
