History:

The Pasadena Host Lions strive to make their corner of the world a better place to live through the volunteer giving of time, money, resources, and effort. Lionism is the attitude that says WE CARE, and we act on it with service to the community.

Since its founding on March 26, 1920, the Pasadena Host Lions Club of Pasadena has provided assistance to various handicapped groups and individuals, the youth of our community, and on a larger scale, to the city itself. Pasadena Lions are community minded men and women who pool their talents on behalf of the local needs and do not wait for regressive conditions to be resolved by the government or "somebody else." They believe that citizens, joined together, can initiate and carry out programs which will make their community a better place to live. Pasadena Host Lions Club is an important part of the Lions Club International, which consists of over 1.3 million men and women in about 45,000 clubs, distributed within 206 countries and geographical areas around the world.

A very important aspect of being a Lion is that which you get in return. We believe in the well established principle that you receive in relation to how much you give. Lions have the satisfaction of knowing that they have made an important difference in many lives. The active Lion is able to make many new friends, thereby utilizing many opportunities for business and personal networking. Another tangible benefit in being active in Lions is the numerous opportunities for leadership development, which enhances one both professionally as well as personally — you become a better human being.

Pasadena Lions have funded the placement of equipment in schools and libraries, purchased much-needed items for individuals who are disadvantaged from various handicaps, and sponsored activities such as summer camp for the benefit of developing young boys and girls. Pasadena Lions also continue to pursue their traditional goal of sight and hearing-related charities, such as: The Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of Southern California, Guide Dogs of America, Southern California Lions Eye Institute, and the Lions Eyemobile.

Each year the Lions work hard to continue to raise funds for these and other worthy causes, but the main thrust is the participation of the members in the "hands-on" activities primarily through the various philanthropic committees that are part of the Pasadena Host Lions Club.
