Pittsboro Fire Department operates out of one fire station, which is known as station 111. It houses 1 engine, 1 tanker, 1 ambulance, 1grass truck, and has 2 command vehicles which are staffed by the Chief and Assistant Chief. The department is a combination department with 12 full time personnel and 22 reserves that are on paid stand by. Pittsboro fire protects mainly a rural area with some large industry with a population close to 7,000 people. The department protects the Town of Pittsboro and Middle Township, which is close to 33 square miles.

Pittsboro Fire Department Mission Statement:

The mission of the Pittsboro Fire Department is to protect all the citizens by safeguarding lives and property through prevention, suppression, EMS, education, and to mitigate other hazards that occur with efficient, effective, and well trained personnel.

History Of Pittsboro Fire Department:

For many years prior to 1951, every able-bodied male citizen of Pittsboro, 21 years or older, were automatically considered to be a member of an unorganized town fire department and expected to answer the fire alarm whenever it sounded. The Town Marshall - Fire Chief was also the gas, water and electric utilities superintendent, street commissioner and dog catcher.
