About Our School

Social Science through Literacy & Technology

The Social Science magnet program includes a study of countries and continents with each grade focusing on a different continent. Elements of Study include: Geography, History, People, Customs, Food, Clothing, Language, Shelter, Economics, Religion, Dance, Music and Art. Each classroom is equipped with computer workstations. Students also have access to the school's computer lab. Students are expected to demonstrate use of age-appropriate technology skills in the completion of a social science project.

Literacy Programs

Student literacy is a Roosevelt focus. The school literacy team provides leadership for the literacy program. Literacy support for students includes after school homework, reading programs and Reading Recovery (English and Spanish). Additional classroom support in Language Arts includes DEAR time, Take-home reading and Daily Oral Language.

A school wide goal is that all students at Roosevelt read at grade level by third grade. To help students reach this goal our Reading Recovery and Reading Specialist teacher works with students in grades K-3.
