Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide. We provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build good will an peace in the world. There are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians of more than 29,000 clubs in 160 countries worldwide.
Rotary was started by Paul P. Harris, a Chicago lawyer, in 1905. During the early years, the meeting place was rotated between member's places of business - hence the name Rotary. In a few years, a second club was formed, and they quickly spread to other cities. By 1921, the organization was represented on every continent, and the name Rotary International was adopted in 1922.
