Southwest Community Church
A few years ago the Midwest Baptist Conference looked at the southwest suburbs and realized that there were over 90,000 people between the ages of 19 and 34 alone. Less than 1/2 of 1% went to church on a regular basis! Throw is those over 34 and the numbers are staggering!
Clearly it was time for a new church in the area. The vision was born for a church that specifically included and related to young adults while still reaching people of all ages.
With the backing of the conference and support of Moraine Valley Church, a few (literally about 3) brave souls set out to network throughout the neighborhood, generate interest, and eventually gather enough people to start weekly services. Southwest Community Church was born- complete with convenient 6pm service time and awesome worship band.
Our church is now big enough to provide outstanding worship music, preaching, and ministries, but still small enough to feel at home, make new friends, and have opportunities to get involved in things. Growing one relationship at a time, here’s who we are today…
* 100 total regular attendees
*65% evenly spread between ages 19 through 35
*25% age 35-55
*5% over 55
*5% ages 0-18
*45% married couples, 55% singles
About 1/3 of our people grew up with a Catholic background, 1/3 grew up in a Protestant church, and about another even 1/3 grew up not attending church at all. Some of us have lived here all of our lives while others have just moved into the community.
You may be reading this and wondering, “Where do I fit in?” The story isn’t over yet! We want you to know that our doors are open to you no matter what your religious background (or lack of one), age, or race. Even if you don’t consider yourself religious! We hope you will visit us soon and help us write the next chapter of the Southwest Story!
AFFILIATION:
Southwest Community Church is voluntarily affiliated with a group of hundreds of churches nationwide known as the Baptist General Conference. Local area churches in this group include Moraine Valley Church in Palos Heights, Homewood Church in Homewood, and Elim Church in Mt. Greenwood, Chicago. We believe that being part of this group gives us greater credibility, accountability, and resources to share.
