Tahoe House Bakery And Gourmet Store
Tahoe House Bakery and Gourmet has been owned and operated by the Vogt family since 1977. Our original concept was Swiss and California Cuisine, and we were open for dinner only. Being originally from Switzerland Peter and Helen Vogt have always loved European Style breads and pastries. In the early 1980’s Peter began to bake his own bread and make his own version of his favorite European desserts. Due to the ever increasing demand for fresh bread, we gradually began selling bread to our customers. It started with a couple of loaves to people who knew to ask.
In 1993 we remodeled our banquet room into a production bakery. We started baking bread all night long so that our customers would have fresh bread every morning. This is where the evolution of Tahoe House began.
In the summer of 1994 Peter and Helen’s two daughters rejoined the family business. Barbara, a certified chef, oversees the kitchen and bakery. Caroline, who graduated from Cal Poly Pomona’s Hotel and Restaurant Management program, manages the the retail store and bakery. Peter and Barbara have developed a whole line of bottled gourmet sauces, salad dressings, marinades, and spice rubs. Barbara’s wedding cakes are available from the bakery, and we added a deli style lunch. Daily offerings include: sandwiches, made on our famous fresh bread, homemade soup, and a variety of salads. Breakfast goodies such as cinnamon rolls, fresh bagels, scones, and coffee drinks are available every day.
Our most recent remodel in 2001 has expanded the store further. New additions include a Gourmet-on-the-go case stocked with fully prepared meals, grilled meats, salads, appetizers, picnic items. We now boast a wine selection suitable for a casual picnic or a wine connoisseur. Of course, we still have the best coffee on the Lake! The store is open from 6 am to 6pm every day. There is now a new look with a bakery counter and large gourmet food store where the dining room used to be. The Tahoe House is not in the dinner business any more.
Helen helps the daughters hold down the fort at the bakery. In the spring and fall you can find Peter and Helen at Home and Garden Shows and Harvest festivals. We attend these shows all over California, ship all over the United States, sell at the on line store, and many other retail stores carry our products
