Town Of Chatham

16 Court Place
434-432-8153

About the Town:
Nestled in the rolling foothills south and east of the Blue Ridge mountains and north of the Piedmont triad, the Town of Chatham is a rich mixture of every period of American history dating back to the arrival of Colonial settlers around 1740.

With a little more than 1300 residents in a largely rural setting, Chatham is a far cry from the cities within an hour or so. Yet, many visitors are pleasantly surprised to discover its charm, beauty, and sense of history. A country setting, period architecture, and friendly people impact all, whether here for a few hours or a few evenings in one of our many Bed and Breakfasts.

After exploring the attractions of the immediate surroundings, you'll find that Chatham is a central point to other activities for adults, children, and families such as hiking, touring, camping, water sports, as well as a wealth of historical exhibits and cultural experiences.

More than a few residents initially came to town as travelers dropping in off US-29 to just "set down a spell" before resuming their journeys. Years later, they are still here, having found the ideal place to raise families, work, and play in a quintessential piece of small-town America.

As the County Seat of Pittsylvania County (Virginia's largest in area) and host to two nationally-recognized college preparatory schools, many are initially drawn to Chatham not for pleasure, but simply on business. An increasing number of professionals (not just writers and artists) find that a virtual office in Chatham offers the advantages of small-town life without compromising their work with city-based business partners and clients.
