The Town of Rumford is in the heart of the western mountains of Maine surrounded by the beauty of the Androscoggin River and numerous lakes and streams. This region is the center of the forest industry with one of the most productive paper mills in New England, NewPage, Inc. Rumford is the home of a vast array of winter sports from snowmobiling, Nordic and alpine skiing. Our newest diamond in the rough is the Black Mountain Ski Center, owned by Maine Winter Sports of Maine. Black Mountain hosts many regional competitions and international ski events. It has great skiing for all in the family no matter what you enjoy.

Rumford offers a full capacity municipal Fire Department, Police Department and Public Works Department. Citizens enjoy the comforts of the Rumford Library and its vast collection and internet service. Hosmer Field and the Rumford Parks is a great place to catch a game and go for a walk on its trails. One can skate during the winter or play hockey on one of its two rinks. The architecture of our community is a sight that many towns can not compare. Visit Rumford Falls and look at the Town Office, The Hotel Harris, The Rumford Community Center and numerous other unique building we have. Then travel off the Island and visit Strathglass Park, the Armory and some of the beautiful homes located throughout our town.

Rumford is located in the River Valley and partners with its local communities in its school district, MSAD #43, home of the 2004 Class B Football State Champs and numerous other outstanding sports teams. It is an active member of the River Valley Growth Council, dedicated to working with businesses to improve our jobs and economic well being of the region. We work on numerous fronts to continue to move forward as a technology leader for the region. Rumford is the also the home of Rumford Hospital an affiliate of Central Maine Medical Center and also supports the River Valley River Valley Health Community Coalition for an improved environment and healthy life style.
